Your visit
Dental insurance we accept
We work with most major dental plans and file the claim for you. The one thing worth doing before you come in is a two-minute phone call.
Plans we participate with
We are participating providers with Delta Dental, Cigna and United Concordia, and we work with many other plans besides, filing the claim for you.
We are not able to accept Medicaid. That is worth knowing before you drive over, not after.
We do work with many of the newer Medicare Advantage dental benefits. Call with your plan details and we will check yours.
Call us with your plan, before you book
Dental plans differ far more than medical ones, and two people with a card from the same company can have entirely different coverage. Call 540-921-3323 with the details on your card and we will check what your particular plan covers here before you commit to an appointment. That is a better answer than any list on a website, which goes out of date the moment a contract changes.
What we do with it
- We file the claim for you rather than handing you a form.
- For anything beyond a check-up you get a written estimate first, showing what the plan is expected to pay and what it leaves you.
- Where a plan is likely to argue, we can send a pre-treatment estimate to the insurer and wait for their answer before starting.
Terms that trip people up
- Annual maximum. The most the plan will pay in a year, often around a thousand dollars, which has barely moved in decades. Large treatment is sometimes worth splitting across two plan years.
- Deductible. What you pay before the plan starts paying. It usually resets each year.
- Waiting period. Some plans will not cover major work for several months after you join.
- Frequency limit. Most plans pay for two cleanings a year. If your gums need four, the plan may still only pay for two.
- Missing tooth clause. Some plans refuse to pay toward replacing a tooth that was already gone when you joined.
None of this is a reason not to use your insurance. It is a reason to know the numbers before treatment rather than after.
No plan at all
Many adults have no dental insurance at all. The Virginia Dental Club exists for exactly that, and it is not insurance: there is no deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting period.
Not sure what your plan covers?
Neither are most people. Call with the card in your hand and we will find out together before anything is booked.
